Pat Junior Shares Rejuvenating Project, ‘The Self Love Sides’

By Trey Fox

Hailing from Raleigh, NC, Pat Junior is a consummate creative. He’s a man of many titles, but he’s widely known as an artist, producer, sound engineer, and an entrepreneur. Keeping busy this year, Junior released a “Reprise” to his 2021 standout project called “Gold Fangs On Sunday.” He also dropped a smooth, poetic verse as the sole feature on Xavier Omär’s “b l u r r” EP. In addition to this, Junior is thriving in the Web3 universe, an environment where this project lived prior to being released to streaming. In fact, “Love Overflow” sold out quickly in the sound.xyz marketplace back in July. With these new records, Junior embarks on the next chapter in his journey.

“Check On Me” sees Junior connect with close friend and frequent collaborator Ro Marsalis. The song is lively, with sharp guitar riffs that really cut through the mix. As someone who always “taps in” with his loved ones, Junior is left feeling exhausted and tapped out. “It’s hard to give when I got nothing to trade with,” he reflects. Being known as the strong friend, Junior’s looking for reciprocity in the midst of life’s challenging moments. Marsalis shares a similar sentiment: “In this game of life, for you to win, you need a team, too.” This is an honest and gentle reminder to reach out to your friends who appear to have it all together.

“Love Overflow” is a soothing record with beautiful string arrangements– courtesy of Jasminfire– and gentle guitar melodies. With vivid writing, Junior narrates the occasion. He’s overcome with joy as his loved ones gather around to celebrate his birthday. “Never, ever felt this way,” he sings joyously. As he recalls this moment, he also thinks back to messages from his supporters who count his journey as inspirational. From the sound of it, this gathering birthed memories of a lifetime for him.

JoeJas drops hard-hitting album “Gaps and Nomads”

By Damilola Grey

JoeJas is back with his first project of the year “Gaps and Nomads”. The English artist drops this after releasing two singles this year- both which make it on the album.

The 9-track project sees JoeJas address different topics such as a personal favorite, “Gappy’s Origin”, where Gappy- a character created by Joe- leaves Four Wing Island (where Gappy lives) to go explore and be free. AS the project title suggests, Gappy is now a nomad. “Gaps and Nomads” is a project about freedom, as it is basically about stepping out of one’s comfort zone. JoeJas also addresses the death of his dad, as well as his friend’s drug addiction- topics which require him to step out of his comfort zone. JoeJas also addresses the death of his dad, as well as his friend’s drug addiction- topics which require him to step out of his comfort zone to talk about. JoeJas made this project to show people that it’s okay to be weird. He perfectly conveys his emotions and art through the fictional world of Gappy. The project was produced by JoeJas himself, and it’s nothing short of amazing.

“Gaps and Nomads” is a fun but deep album which is full of emotions which were packed into 9 songs. JoeJas definitely didn’t disappoint with this project. Check it out below:

Notty Taylor kicks off “Nottober” with new single “DRIVEWAY”

By Damilola Grey

Notty Taylor has been on an impressive streak this year: from dropping an array of amazing singles like “4vr or Nvr”, “Owe Me”, “Idk1” to the release of his 3rd project “Nottyhrs”. While gearing up for Nottober, he has decided to bless fans with the release of his latest single “DRIVEWAY”.

“DRIVEWAY”, which was produced by Tennessee-based beatmaker DevanThatDude, is all about decision making and living in the moment while looking forward to the future. Notty is able to portray his emotions in just one verse. This is a bit different from what fans of Notty Taylor are probaby accustomed to. Instead of his signature mellow sound- reminiscent of early J Cole- Notty starts off the single with something a bit different: a somewhat distorted chorus before beginning his verse. He then starts off his verse with neither a mellow nor aggressive delivery, but a perfect combination of the both.

Notty Taylor is on the DRIVEWAY to being a worldwide name and his latest single reinforces that statement

Erik Evy drops mellow 4-pack ‘Matinee’

By Damilola Grey

Chicago native, Erik Evy is back with his first project of the year, titled Matinee. The EP is graced by 4 tracks, showing fans a different side of Erik as well as a different sound. Matinee also marks the transition from Erik’s previous music to a much more matured, mellow sound.

Erik Evy takes a more vulnerable approach on this project, both in writing and delivery. The production is also very conservative, which gives the project a raw sound full of emotion. To add to the EP’s rawness, none of the songs have a hook and are strictly bars. Erik addresses various moments in his life on various tracks such as “Sunday Morning” where Erik has a form of soliloquy reminiscing about his first open mic, his battle with Corona, and the stress of settling down in a new place. Erik also talks about the bright side of life, not just for himself but for others, on “Promises”. When I talked to the Chicago native about the significance of the EP to him, he told me “It represents a change in mindset that I need to take everything more seriously if I want to take this to the next level”.

Erik Evy is well on his way to the next level with the release of this project. Check out ‘Matinee’ below:

An Interview with Notty Taylor

By Damilola Grey

Dami: What pushed you to start making music?

Notty Taylor: I was most directly inspired to do music by Terence “t.ANT” Pitchford. We from the same neighborhood, and he was the first person that I knew that had his own clothing line, and rapped on his own beats. The first person popping his shit for real, and who embodied what an artist is. He taught me everything I know. Being inspired by OutKast, Lil Wayne, and T.I early on in my youth pushed me to become more of a fan and student of music. Then when Kanye West and Drake broke through, it gave me a different type of inspiration. I actually saw myself a major label artist for the first time and wanted to create music that felt like theirs.

Dami: With all these inspirations, how would you now describe your sound?

Notty Taylor: Ideally, the journey I’m on right now has a destination of making sounds that feel like late nights in a city near you.

Dami: Is there anything else that inspires you when making music apart from the intention of making soothing, mellow tracks?

Notty Taylor: My environments inspire me every day. Whatever it is I’m currently experiencing or have past experiences with, I try to draw from creatively.

Dami: How are you able to handle growth as an artist while sticking to your sound?

Notty Taylor: Keeping the Purple Room Creative family as close as possible. Having a support system is important, and I work with extremely talented creatives and visionaries.

Dami: Can you tell us more about the Purple Room Creative?

Notty Taylor: Purple Room Creative is best described as an idea(s) company that was founded by me and t.ANT. Everything from creative design, culture curation, fashion, food, live performances, music, production and videography. Literally everything.

Dami: On your previous projects like Cutlass, Getmethru, and Nottyhrs, you’ve kept your sound while adding elements of other sounds too. Should we expect more from future projects?

Notty Taylor: Every project is an extension of me and t.ANT and what we’ve built. Overall, I stay the same but how I’m feeling at any given time is subjective. The music has to embody that. I’ve never heard the same exact sound from CD to CD or even song to song from Ye. He’s always finding new ways to express himself, so a lot of his most ambitious ideas drive us to do the same things: create with boundaries.

Dami: Can you tell us more about NOTTOBER?

Notty Taylor: THANK ME Thursdays are back. It’s like a bonus season to the series.

Dami: Tell us more about THANK ME Thursdays?

Notty Taylor: I’ve been doing these runs since 2018, where we drop something new from Notty Taylor every week for 2-3 months straight. New concepts, flows, and styles- new everything. Vault therapy.

Dami: You’re starting it with a single titled “Driveway”. What should we expect from it?

Notty Taylor: It sounds like a late night in a city near you. Styles and flows. Fun and to the point.

Dami: What has been the most challenging part of being an artist?

Notty Taylor: Funding my ideas.

3wade shares infectious single, “Issues”

By Todd Anderson

3wade is an on the rise recording artist who has been seeing much success this year. His music has been trending as more are becoming aware of his presence within the music industry. He has been diligently working on the growth of his brand and has found joy in the hustle. Recently he released a record with Asian Doll “Erupt” that has been trending everywhere. The pair complimented each other well on this track.

Although his favorite record is his song titled “Issues”. This song for him means a lot because it was a song he left his all on. He spoke his story, emotions and knowledge onto this track and honed in on his melodic vocals thus creating his vibe today. If it wasn’t for creating music he would still find a profession being around it. If he wasn’t the artist he would want to help develop other artists into star potential as a label owner.

3wade is currently working on a new album set to release around February. The grind doesn’t stop. Make sure you tap into his content now before he releases new records. This artist is already on the radar as one that could surprise the industry and other mainstream artists.

Nkosi Bourne delivers introspective new mixtape, ‘Glimpse’

Brooklyn-based artist Nkosi Bourne has shared a new mixtape, titled Glimpse. Chock full of emotional tracks that capture vivid lyrical portraits by course of Bourne’s sharp pen game, the project provides a refreshingly heartfelt dosage of East Coast underground hip-hop. Preceded by a series of well-received singles such as “No BS”, “Positive Affirmations”, and “Squares” that flirted with lo-fi soundscapes effectively, Glimpse builds off the poignancy of those singles to make for a richly thoughtful, introspective journey into the mind of the artist.

Songs like the title track opener and closer “Therapy” are glowing and ethereal sonically, while containing descriptive, sharply-crafted lyrics that draw the listener in to Bourne’s inner world. “Drowning” provides a jazzy, nocturnal feel with its smoky guitars and laid-back percussion, providing a solid foundation for Bourne’s smooth, laid-back flows. “What’s A Little Time?” is expressive and experimental, with jaunty, organic percussion creating a more abstract rhythmic backdrop and showcasing Bourne’s versatility.

Overall, Bourne’s new EP is a potent, layered project running with an undercurrent of authenticity, making for an engagingly emotional listen.
