‘Lost World’ collaboration by FastLife & sherman just might have the coldest rhymes of December

By Hazel Clementine

The album collaboration ‘Lost World’ by FastLife and sherman is an instant classic from beginning to end. ‘Lost World’ is nothing short of chilling beats and rhymes, such as the 1st track titled ‘What A Scam’ which delivers a beautiful electric guitar riff bridge, blended perfectly with jazzy samples. The album also features standout tracks like ‘Louder’ and ‘Fifty First States’, where FastLife and sherman showcase their impeccable lyrical skills over haunting and atmospheric production.

Not to mention, you cant forget the beautiful album cover that’s illustrated by an artist who goes by @eslickyricardo on instagram. The cover features various illustrations such as aliens, snakes, birds and planets which gives the impression that they are on a weird and random planet hence the name of the album being titled ‘Lost World’ . We felt as if the art also adds an element of intrigue and mystery to the overall concept of being on a strange and unknown planet.

The collaboration between FastLife and sherman on the album ‘Lost World’ showcases their ability to create a captivating and immersive musical experience. From the chilling beats to the impeccable lyrical skills, each track on the album is a testament to their talent. If you’re an hip-hop fan looking for something unique and thought-provoking, check out this album here on Spotify:

Charlotte, NC’s hottest producer FLLS releases a phonk album that brings a sense of culture to the Charlotte community

By Hazel Clementine

Charlotte’s very own phonk legend FLLS releases a new album, titled ‘The Norf Cack Mack: Story Of Lucious Johnson’, and it will more than likely blow your car speakers out of service. If you’re a fan of phonk and Memphis/ Texas style hip hop, you will play this album over and over again.

Producer and rapper FLLS, also known as Lavonte Hines is a Charlotte native and a lover of southern music wanted to pay homage to talented southern rappers of the 90’s and 00’s by creating a fire phonk album. FLLS wanted his audience and fans to understand just how much they have influenced him by making an album that is audibly and phonically amazing in each and every way.

We don’t have a particular favorite track as each song is a true 10 out of 10. We loved how some of the tracks such as ‘Freaky Pimp’, ‘Sugar Creek Sweep’ and ‘If I Never’ gave bits and pieces of Charlotte’s history while also simultaneously giving somewhat of a “culture” feeling that Charlotte, North Carolina lacks. You can only stream this album on Bandcamp so support FLLS directly & purchase ‘The Norf Cack Mack: Story Of Lucious Johnson’ on his bandcamp here!

Charlotte, NC producer Dirty Art Club lays out all of his unreleased rough drafts, beats & loops from the decade

By Hazel Clementine

This is a pretty big deal. Dirty Art Club has released the gems he’s been hiding of unreleased loops, rough drafts, beats and ideas from the past decade. Dirty Art Club is not only a beat maker, but he also produces for rappers such as the legend himself, Lord Jah-Monte Ogbon. Some of Lord Jah-Monte’s hit tracks that Dirty Art Club has produced are; ‘NAH SHE GOT LITTLE’, ‘Angela Basett’, and ‘SHE GOT THAT DAWG IN HER’. Aside from producing hits, Dirty Art Club creates remarkable beat tapes showcasing his amazing beat making and producing skills like the beat tape ‘FMTI’, which gave not only gave remarkable beats, and butter smooth rhythms but it also provided a nostalgic feeling, because of the phenomenal samples that were used and how Dirty Art Club chose to sample & mix his creations. However, this new release ‘B Sides (Jacuzzi Sushi / Car Test)’ is a fusion of beats that sound as if the greatest rappers of our time could add a verse to and the productions would probably be the crème de la crème of our generation. We would love to see Dirty Art Club producing for Navy Blue, MIKE, Westside Gunn & Griselda and a collaboration with Stove God Cooks but we can only hope that these collaborations are upon us in the near future. Check out Dirty Art Club’s new release here on Bandcamp HERE as it’s only a bandcamp exclusive!

Blue Sol has ‘Somethin’ For Ya Eardrums’ and you don’t want to miss it!

By Hazel Clementine

Fresh on the scene, Blue Sol is a new hip hop producer and beat maker from the UK. His first released album titled ‘Somethin For Ya Eardrums’ is a colorful, jazzy 90’s inspired album full of hypnotic boom bap songs. As each track embodies that classic hip hop sound, you’d think these instrumental beats were the instrumental tracks to hip hop legends like Black Moon, Souls Of Mischief or Gang Starr- but the ludicrous part is they aren’t. With tracks like “Nehmia’s Groove” and “Hey Piano”, Sol definitely knows how to keep an audience engaged and begging for more as each beat is a one of a kind and has achieved such excellent production. Our favorite track is “Hey Piano”, but each song brings a fresh element to the table, and is an absolute solid 10/10. The album showcases Blue Sol’s talent and creativity in blending old-school hip hop vibes with his own unique style. Whether you’re a fan of boom bap beats or simply appreciate good music, ‘Somethin For Ya Eardrums’ is a must-listen. Don’t sleep on Blue Sol’s debut album, as it promises to leave a lasting impression on your eardrums. Stream on spotify or buy directly from Blue Sol bandcamp HERE!

Don’t sleep on the beat tape ‘buggie’ by ras_koala

By Hazel Clementine

Listening to ras_koala‘s beat tape ‘buggie’ gave instant nostalgia- as it took us back to the OG beat tape days of discovering releases from the greats like Ohbliv, Tuamie, and Knx, and watching Godsconnect edits on Youtube. ras_koala not only has this engaging beat tape to vibe to, but they also have a project the dropped back in october titled ‘listen.’ if you want to check that out as well.

This current tape ‘buggie’ may have been a quick offering, but it was worth every second of listening. The beginning of the tape features very mellow but still head nodding worthy tracks such as ‘drivein’ and ‘land’. Going towards the ending, while the beats are still mellow, the crisp clear drums start to give more of that signature boom bap sound. Our favorite track is ‘nodding’ because everything about the beat is comforting. The nostalgic feel, the drums, the sample, the piano…..what’s there to hate about this beautiful hypnotizing beat? Please support the artist by purchasing directly from the bandcamp link here. You won’t be disappointed!

Drop everything and pass ‘The Aux’ to Blockhead

By Hazel Clementine

The long-awaited solo release of ‘The Aux’ by Blockhead is a hit from beginning to end, that you really don’t want to miss. With features like Aesop Rock, Navy Blue and Danny Brown and many more, ‘The Aux’ features some of underground hip hop’s best artists today.

The album starts off with heat as we vibe with the engaging track ‘AAU Tournaments’, which features artist Navy Blue and billy woods. As you progress throughout the album you get beats and eclectic samples that you’ve never heard of intertwined into an organic, NYC hip hop sound. Our favorite track is “Mississippi”, featuring Aesop Rock, which samples some truly intriguing songs and vocals. If you’re a big hip hop head, then you might’ve caught the surprise sample on the track that’s no other than Black Moon’s hit song ‘Who Got The Props’. Admired the sampling so much, we had to go back and listen to not only the track again to rave about how Blockhead orchestrated every sound, beat and instrument but we had to go back and listen to Black Moon.

Go and listen to Blockhead’s new album ‘The Aux’ which is out on all streaming platforms and currently on Bandcamp for only $10 (Which is a STEAL! ).

A Glistening Afro, and a New Album by Seafood Sam

By Hazel Clementine

New album ‘Afros In The Wind’ by Seafood Sam is a hip-hop, R&B, neo soul and experimental fantasy, as each song captivates the listener in an invigorating, creative sound. “Luv Baby Soft” starts of like a futuristic Microsoft vaporwave dream- everything starts to glisten into the sunset, things such as the sun, sky, cadillacs and afros. “The Spirit of Harold Lilly” has more of a neo soul vibe as Seafood Sam speaks about himself going from, essentially being broke, to having money, and how he is the chosen one that was handmade and crafted by god.

Like, how could you not root for the chosen one? He is Seafood Sam after all for Christ’s sake!…. or as Seafood Sam proclaims, he calls himself ‘Seafood Smooth’. But one might ask, why? Well, we’d like to think it’s because he’s one smooth mothafucka while he’s rocking his drip, cruising in his cadillac with his 4c afro blowing with the wind. That sounds like a vibe but nothing more like the tracks “Ethel’s Cafe” and “Annie-Merl”, which they both delivered beats, piano riffs and expressive rhymes. Check out Seafood Sam and his new album ‘Afros In The Wind’ & his two previous works now on Spotify and Bandcamp!
